If your dog does not listen, send it to school
THE Four Paws Academy for Dogs was established a year ago and recently held its first agility show at the Doc Jubber hockey fields in Olympia. The day was blessed with sunshine, the lawn was just perfect, lush and green for participants and spectators to enjoy a quick sport with lots of fun with dogs.
Eight handlers had entered 19 dogs to compete in two rounds each. Dogs compete in three classes for three different sizes in two different rounds. The first round, “Contact”, includes jumps, a dog walk, seesaw, an “A” frame, 12 weaving poles, a tunnel and a tyre.
The second round, “Non Contact”, has jumps, the tunnel, tyre and weaving poles. The obstacles are numbered in sequence and the aim is to complete each course faultlessly in the best time to win and to qualify. Prizes were sponsored by Brigitte Bartsch-Ruck with Ultra Dog dog food. Floating trophies were donated by Model Pick ‘n Pay, Posh Dog and The New Book Cellar.
The Pick ‘n Pay trophy for the best dog in “Contact” was won by Jack Russel Peanut and Kirsten Drews, the “Non Contact” trophy was won by Malinois Inno and Charlotte Rusch.
The New Book Cellar Trophy was taken by Beginner Phantom and Liz Curtis. The Four Paws Academy for Dogs thanks all participants, the time keepers and scribe, the sponsors and the Hockey Union for their support.
