Last Saturday the women's players took part in the second Windhoek Lager Africa Jacket qualifying event, sponsored by Klein Windhoek Guesthouse.

With tropical storm Dineo not making its expected appearance, the weather was fantastic, but the narrow fairways and fast growing rough at the Windhoek Country Club made life difficult for the players.

Jane Liebenberg had an excellent front nine racking up 20 points. She struggled a bit on the back nine making 14 points, but had already done enough to win the day by four points over Hansina Hinda.

The results were: Jane Liebenberg 34 points; Hansina Hinda 30; Angie Lohman 27 (count-out); Amanda van Dyk 27.

The next Windhoek Lager Africa Jacket qualifying event is the Central Open at Omeya on 11 and 12 March.

There were 2-clubs from Gerhard Byleveld and Wayne Profitt on hole number 7 and Mark Jacobs at nr. 12.

• The monthly SAGES competition last Sunday was sponsored by Margot and Pete Bassingthwaighte from Cornerstone Guesthouse. Thanks to the sponsor everyone returned home with a little something.

The day's only 2-club belonged to Tony Boesch. Nearest to the pin prizes went to Rina Knight on nr. 7 and Clive Lawrence on nr. 12.

Overall winner Lucille Abrahams (38 points) overcame the challenge of Tony Boesch (34, c/o), Jacque van der Merwe 34, Rina Knight 33 and Dougie Smith 31.

• Tomorrow's event at Rössmund is the Novanam Monthly Medal.

RACE TO OMEYA

Omeya Golf Club kicked off with round 1 of the AfricaOnline Race to Omeya Members Cup last Saturday. Round 1 attracted the biggest field to date with 120 players teeing it up to get their names on the respective order of merits.

Following the good rains the course was playing long and tough, but that did not stop players to dip well under their handicaps on the day.

Stefanus van der Merwe was victorious with a superb 39 points, pipping Wikus Krugel and Rudolph Verburg on the count-out.

Round 2 will be played on Saturday, 18 March.
