The chief operational officer (COO) of Namibia Media Holdings (NMH), Llewellyn Kruger, maintains a balance in his work and personal life through the love of farming and the love for his family.

Born and raised in Windhoek, Kruger matriculated at Academia Secondary School in 1993. According to Kruger his strong suits were mathematics, science and accounting. Before continuing his studies, Kruger initially wanted to pursue career in engineering but decided to take a different route to study towards becoming a chartered accountant at the University of the Orange Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa.

Growing up, school sports, holidays at the sea, visiting the farm and visiting the Etosha National Park are among his fondest memories.

Through his journey growing up and becoming the man he is today, one piece of advice Kruger wish he had learned, is: “You may lose some battles to win the war eventually. If you throw a stone at every barking dog you may not reach your destination.”

After his studies, Llewellyn completed his articles at Deloitte, after which he moved to the Ohlthaver and List (O&L) head office where he served as the group financial manager, he continued within the group of companies and became the financial director at Namibia Diaries. In 2013 Kruger took a leap to invest more time in his farming and in his construction company.

Starting at NMH

Kruger’s journey at NMH started in 2014 as the general manager of finance and is now currently employed as the COO.

His day starts off paging though all the newspapers, after which he takes a look at the numbers of the business and makes changes accordingly. Throughout the day he attends various meetings after which he works through his to-do list and emails.

According to Kruger, assisting people and figuring out solutions to the company’s challenges is what he enjoys about the work, which is also one of his daily challenges.

In order to be successful in a leadership position of a company, Kruger shared that it is important to get involved operationally to understand your business more.

His goals for the New Year are to finalise the implementation of the new system within the company as well as to plan the strategic way forward. Personally, he would like to remain being a good father, a child of God and to enjoy his farming.

A message to the NMH staff

“We made it through 2020 and 2021 with some major adjustments to each and every one. The field is set for us to embark on a rejuvenated future for media.”
