Key to preventing the road carnage
Dr. A.C. Obholzer writes:
Every year, in December / January, “Road Safety” is the number one promotion – Don’t Drink, Don’t Speed, Don’t Overload, Don’t Overtake Blindly and be Roadworthy (Tyres, Brakes, Lights).
The annual Exodus to the regions is in full swing, with increased traffic density, day and night.
The main danger period is “dark”, sunset to sunrise. You see less, you are blinded by oncoming traffic, you are tired, your reaction time is slower – higher accident rate!
The massacre of road deaths, in the dark, over the last weekend, sends a clear message:
Don’t travel at night! – the safety odds are against you.
If you have to drive, don’t exceed 80 k.p.h. on tar or 60 k.p.h. on gravel.
Always wear a safety belt. Drink coffee or sugar free Coke to stay awake.
Rather arrive later than never!
