Kunene learners get uniforms
The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Sophia Shaningwa on Tuesday handed over uniforms to schools in the Kunene Region.
The more than 3 000 standard grey shirts and grey trousers used in many schools across Namibia are valued at N$300 000 and were donated by Boundary Wholesales clothing store in Windhoek.
Shaningwa handed it over to Regional Governor Angelika Muharukua, who then passed it on to Regional Director of Education, Angelina Steenkamp, at the Putuavanga Senior Secondary School in Opuwo.
Steenkamp told Nampa her office will soon meet to identify learners in the region in need of the uniforms.
“These uniforms were given free of charge by Boundary Wholesales and should be given to the learners at no cost,” the minister warned at the handover function.
Deputy Director of Education in Kunene, Alwina !Aibes, told this agency the uniforms will help boost learners' morale, which in turn will improve their performance.
“Schools to benefit most will be those in the Epupa and Opuwo Rural constituencies, but there are also schools in the Khorixas Constituency such as Versteende Woud, Eddi Bowe, TF Gaeb and Abraham Gariseb primary schools, where there are vulnerable learners.”
