Land Rover Owners dissect Damaraland tonight
Public invited to a free talk by off-road expert, Johan Snyman
Get yourself adventure-ready
Damaraland is a contrasting wonderland. It is a barren mountainous desert region which offers very little in the way of water, vegetation and animals. It has a tame side, where you travel roads with a fairly good surface to visit places of interest and a variety of accommodation options.
It also has a wild side, where you travel on gravel and rocky tracks, along sandy and swampy riverbeds, to visit places of interest. Chances of encountering other tourists are slim and a visit to this area should not be undertaken lightly. You could end up hundreds of kilometers from help, and days from hospital, if something goes wrong.
Johan Snyman, off-road expert and author, will be having his second presentation at the Land Rover Owners Namibia’s (LRON) monthly social evening tonight and the public, not limited to Land Rover owners, are eagerly invited to attend.
There he will briefly discuss how he went about preparing his vehicle, the trusty 300TDI Land Rover which he used during his research, the fauna and flora of the areas as well as the roads, tracks and rivers that he drove to record every possible waypoint and points of interest that he compiled into his book, “Discovering the secrets of Namibia: Damaraland”.
Guide
This full-colour guide to the Damaraland is the most complete and comprehensive available at present and contains all the information that a prospective visitor needs to make informed choices when planning a tour to, and through the area. It contains useful information on the local population, the fauna and flora likely to be encountered in the area, the geology, places of interest, and more.
The author Johan Snyman has personally driven, logged and described every road, track and river and unproclaimed track, in the area and gives detailed descriptions, which he’ll share in an insightful talk at the Old Wheelers Club tonight, starting at 18:00.
His books will also be available on sale during the event, at N$350 for his book on the Kaokoland and N$300 for his work on Damaraland or N$550 for both.
"We are really looking forward to another great expert talk by Johan. Not only is his knowledge of these areas unrivaled, but he has a very approachable way of presenting his talks. This makes them not only informative, but also extremely enjoyable," said JC Kruger from the LRON Council.
"As the Land Rover Owners of Namibia, we were really impressed by the success of Johan's previous presentation on the majestic, yet unforgiving Kaokoland and were thrilled that a total of 108 guests, from all walks of life and each with their own motoring affiliations, attended the talk and interacted with us.This just goes to show that the love of off-road motoring can bring a diverse group of people together, and we enthusicaly invite the public to attend tonight's event," he added.
Also coming up by Johan Snyman: Discovering the secrets of Namibia, BUSHMANLAND on the 2nd November 2017.
