Longbeach Lodge under new management

The United Africa Group (UAG) have added to their extensive hospitality portfolio, with the purchase of the Longbeach Lodge in Langstrand this month, making this the seventh UAG owned hotel, which is being managed by Protea Hotels Namibia and another milestone in UAG’s continued growth.

Strengthening its foothold as the largest hotel group in Namibia, the Protea Hotels Namibia which became a joint venture with the UAG, manages nine hotel properties in Namibia, of which five are situated in the Swakopmund and Walvis Bay area. The United Africa properties at the coast under the management of Protea Hotels Namibia include the African Pride Burning Shore currently being upgraded, Pelican Bay Hotel, and the latest acquisition Longbeach Lodge which was taken over on 18 December.

According to Graham Howard (Regional Director Protea Hotels Namibia), the transition process to turn the lodge into a quality Protea branded product has already begun. He said there are immediate plans to add onto the 14 existing rooms which the Lodge currently offers, to a total 25 rooms. The Lodge also offers a conference room, swimming pool, recreation area plus coffee shop.

“The purchase of Longbeach Lodge by UAG fits in with the company’s plans to own and manage hotels in strategic locations throughout Namibia,” said Howard. “We are also continuing the ongoing process of expanding the Protea brand which is the largest hotel group in Namibia, and ensure market dominance.”

The United Africa Hospitality Group is a 51% shareholder in the Protea Hotels Namibia venture which was started last year, adding to the chain of its existing hotels in the company’s portfolio, under the Protea Hotels 130 strong collection. Protea Hotels Namibia manages a network of hospitality units strategically positioned throughout Namibia.

The joint venture also accelerated the dream of UAG Executive Director Haddis Tilahun and Martha Tilahun (Chairperson) to own a chain of superior hotels spread across the country, and have since made significant capital investments into the hotel industry. Poised for the immediate future is the N$1 billion Elikim Namundjebo Plaza development which will include a hotel, restaurants, banks and shops to mention some, which geared for development next year.
