Maltas Club mentors pupils

The University of Namibia's prestigious Maltas Club Namibia (Management Leadership Talent Search) “adopted” 29 pupils towards the end of last year from the Madume Kindergarten in Okahandja Park.

This is a new branch of the Maltas family tree, called the The Malties. This year the pupils started their school careers at the Dr Frans Indongo and Tobias Hainyeko Primary Schools respectively. Although not all of the learners are at the same school, the Maltas team joined efforts with a local manufacturing company, White Feather Creations, in ensuring the learners are well-equipped when they transition from school to university.

The primary purpose of the mentorship programme is to teach the learners basic social and emotional intelligence.

In addition to, the programme aims to expose the children to experiences they may not be afforded at school.

The learners kicked off their journey as Malties with a tour of Windhoek.

They got the opportunity to visit the Christuskirche where they also learned more about German/Namibian history.

After this they visited the National Museum opposite Parliament Gardens.

Mr Lazarus Emvula, outgoing Maltas President, said at the occasion he can “literally see himself in the learners”.

Although he did not have the same opportunities, Emvula said he is glad he now has the chance to present the next generation with opportunities.

“I can not think of a better way to invest my time and energy,” he said.

According to Ms Mathilda Isithile, managing director of White Feather Creations, the company wants to build the pupils a secure foundation and monitor their growth and development.

The company will also ensure that the children have proper school uniforms and toiletries throughout their school career.

After the formalities, Mr Patrick Eiseb, manager at Wimpy Wernhil Park, provided the pupils with a meal. The Maltas express their gratitude to all stakeholders.
