Last Saturday and Sunday pulled a huge field of 86 players for the annual Windhoek Lager Omeya Open, with players coming from as far as Mariental, Walvis Bay and Otjiwarongo.

After 36 holes of play with a tough setup and tricky pins, Rössmund’s Likius Nande and Walvis Bay’s Gert Olivier was tied on 2 over par 146.

Competition rules do not allow the title to be shared, thus the two contenders had to go down to the 10th for a sudden death play-off.

Likius was first off on the first sudden death and hit a screamer, leaving himself a short iron in. Next up Gert hit a low and left tee shot, leaving himself a tricky second shot which finished short left. Likius hit his approach to 2 foot, with Gert having to chip in to take the sudden death a hole further.

Gert’s chip narrowly missed the hole, which gave Likius the well-deserved win.

There were four professionals in the field with Roux Jeffery (146) coming out tops, outplaying Grant Mather from Walvis Bay Golf Club by five shots.

The management of the Omeya Golf Club would like to thank Namibian Breweries Limited for the ongoing support and for supporting this flagship event. A special word of thanks to all players from other clubs who made the trip down to Omeya.
