NBA national league kicks off

The Namibia Bowling Association (NBA) will this weekend host the first leg of its 2021 national league.
The league, which includes clubs from Windhoek and the coastal towns, will be played at the bowling clubs TransNamib, Eros and Windhoek Bowling Club.
NBA public relations officer Wojtek Majewski told Nampa yesterday that the upcoming tournament for the inland and coastal clubs will be the first for the year.
“The national league occurs every year and involves all clubs in Namibia playing against each other to determine who is the best.
“We are expecting 56 bowlers from the coast and Windhoek at this competition,” said Majewski.
He added that clubs have worked hard to improve their squads and the 2021 season is expected to be competitive and interesting.
“Bowling clubs have seen their membership increase this year, which is a move in the right direction. Competition will definitely be tough as there are some up and coming talent, along with current and former national players competing against each other, which should make for an interesting season,” he said.
Majewski stated that the NBA plans to host the African States Tournament in September.
“We cannot confirm 100 per cent at the moment, as things are still in the planning stages. Unfortunately also most bowling events at international level that were scheduled to take place this year, have been postponed to 2022,” he said.
Majewski said although bowling is a non-contact sport, social distancing measures will be adhered to during the league.
“There are measures in place to adhere to the various conditions stipulated by the government and Ministry of Health regarding Covid-19,” Majewski said.

SATURDAY (20 FEBRUARY)
Eros Bowling Club: Eros vs Windhoek 10:30.
TransNamib Bowling Club: TransNamib Bowling Club (TNBC) vs Rössmund 10:30.
Eros Bowling Club: Eros vs Rössmund 14:30.
Windhoek Bowling Club: Windhoek vs TransNamib 14:30.
SUNDAY (21 FEBRUARY)
TransNamib Bowling Club: TransNamib vs Eros 08:00.
Windhoek Bowling Club: Windhoek vs Rössmund 08:00.
