New look for Hobatere Lodge
The unique location of Hobatere Lodge, being the gateway to the western Etosha National Park, allows for an exclusive wildlife experience but, at the same time, the aim is to increase the sense of being a conservancy lodge which benefits the local community and conservation.
Hobatere Lodge, recently renovated at a cost of N$14 million and officially reopened in June, is strategically located 65km north of Kamanjab on the western border of Etosha.
The lodge has an airstrip and is situated in a concession area of 8,808ha which offers a wild and memorable experience, with free roaming wildlife with a host of species to be seen such as elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah giraffe, eland, and Hartmann's zebra.
Hobatere is situated in a concession area in the old Damaraland in the Kunene Region, close to a number of key attractions including Twyfelfontein, Brandberg, Etosha National Park, Damaraland, Hoanib River and Opuwo.
GAME DRIVES
Hobatere offers the visitor the opportunity to experience game drives in open vehicles and nature walks with knowledgeable rangers. Early morning and night drives are part of the activities on offer where many nocturnal animals, such as aardvark, Cape fox, bat-eared fox, aardwolf, genet and many more are encountered. Guided safaris to the Etosha National Park are also offered.
In both the morning and afternoon drives the guests will thus have all the benefits of enjoying an exclusive area rich in wildlife whilst bird-watching enthusiasts can also applaud the variety of species found in this concession.
GUIDED WALKS
Enjoy a scrumptious, wholesome breakfast on the veranda or deck of the restaurant. Your guide will meet you at the lodge for an early start to explore the concession on foot. You will have an opportunity to see and learn about the local flora and fauna and perhaps encounter the shy wildlife living in the area.
ETOSHA EXCURSION
If you don’t feel like driving yourself and want to relax in a game viewer to just absorb one of the most beautiful game parks through your camera lense, come and join a full day Etosha drive. The excursion starts at approximately 06:30, depending on the park gate’s opening times which vary seasonally. This is a full day trip which follows a circular route through the Galton Gate to Okaukuejo and further on to various waterholes. There is also a stop-over for lunch at the Okaukuejo waterhole to enjoy top quality refreshments prepared by our kitchen staff and offering you the opportunity to stretch your legs before returning to the lodge.
ACCOMMODATION
There are six twin rooms, six double rooms which, on request, can accommodate a third person, and two single rooms. Each room has a shower, toilet and washbasin complemented by the necessary guest amenities.
Each room also has a writing desk, bedside lamp and a small deck in front of the unit. A small coffee and tea station with hot water flask (refillable at reception) are included for your convenience.
