This weekend sees the third playing of the Omeya Members Cup. The Omeya Members Cup is the “Grand Finale” after a ten-event qualifying series sponsored by AfricaOnline.

Two teams each comprising of 12 members go head to head to head over 54 holes in three different formats – in a team competition similar to the Ryder Cup.

This afternoon play kicks off at 12:00 with a betterball format, followed by foursomes tomorrow morning and singles tomorrow afternoon.

The two teams consist of 12 Home Owners playing against 12 Members selected off the final Order of Merit of the AfricaOnline Race to Omeya Members Cup played throughout the year.

Both teams have tasted victory over the last two years, with the Home Owners defending their title from 2015.

Omeya Golf Club is ecstatic to partner with two corporate giants in the form of King Price Namibia and Castle Lite and would like to convey sincere thanks for their generous sponsorship to ensure that this event remains the highlight on the club’s golfing calendar.

Herewith the pairings for this afternoon’s betterball format:

12:00 Andy Fallis, Francois Hanekom (Members) vs Lloyd Underhill, Jaco Labuschagne (Home Owners).

12:10 Wikus Krugel, Rinus Carstens (Members) vs Louis du Pisani, Willie Prinsloo (Home Owners).

RÖSSMUND

The weather at Swakopmund stays misty and overcast. The course is in good condition and the ground staff are very busy trimming everything ready for the upcoming season – hole no. 18 is looking picture perfect from the clubhouse windows.

Rössmund will play host next week (31 October until 4 November) to the 2016 Sages Interbranch tournament, featuring a daily field of 80-plus golfers from throughout Namibia and also some visitors from South Africa. Play will be on Monday; Tuesday; Thursday and Friday mornings.

• Last Saturday saw some of the regular golfers out playing a betterball stableford competition sponsored by the club. Scores were very impressive as the winning combination came in with 46 points and the losers (most golf for the day) on a count-out with a very shabby 36 points. First: G Louw/Tienie van Rensburg; Second: Dean Kock/Desmond Benson; Third: Mark Jacobs/ Clive Lawrence.

• Tomorrow will be the club’s Monthly Medal / “Feeshing” competition sponsored by Novanam. Only one more event remains after this, so those in the running must make sure they pick up as many points as possible.

Achmet Abrahams is currently leading the field with 86 points, followed by Dennis on 74 with Helmut and Likius in a tie for third place on 70.

• On Saturday 5 November the Alexander Forbes Golf Day awaits. The format is Betterball Scramble Thru the Green, with two scores to count. This promises to be a fun day of golf, so please make sure you have your names on the list as soon as possible. The contact person is Cobus de Klerk at 081 216 6117.
