On sensitivity and compassion
BONNIE PEREKO WRITES:
I wonder if there's a way newspapers including yours can exercise a bit of compassion when reporting on matters like this (Republikein website, "Jong huiswerker vas wat baba na badgeboorte glo vermoor", 13 December 2021, as share on Facebook)?
This could easily be your family members or yourselves if you are female, who can find yourself in this sad situation.
The comment section is brutal and uncaring, subjecting the "perpetrator"/victim to more pain. Nobody just decides to act like this without much pain and emotional suffering.
I'm male. But I know women go through hell. Too much is expected of them by society. It is a form of oppression!
Yes I'm sure you want to sell news, but at what cost, especially on issues like this?
I hope for a more positive response and a beginning of stimulating debates that your paper can generate, to protect and educate.
