Onderwysers in Zimbabwe bly staak
Onderwysers in Zimbabwe sou gister voortgaan met hul nasionale staking nadat onderhandelinge tussen die regering en vakbonde misluk het.
Die vernaamste vakbond in die openbare sektor het verlede week hul staking vir beter salarisse op die lange baan geskuif nadat die veiligheidsmagte in Januarie op stakers toegeslaan het.
Die onderwysers het egter nou gesê dat hulle sal voortgaan met hul staking.
Regeringsamptenare en onderwysvakbonde het Maandag in Harare vergader, maar die onderhandelinge het weer op ’n dooiepunt uitgeloop.
Die 305 000 staatsdienswerkers eis loonverhogings en betaling in dollar om die stygende inflasie en die ekonomiese krisis in Zimbabwe die hoof te bied.
Die twee grootste vakbonde, die Zimbabwean Teachers’ Union en die Progressive Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ), sê daar is nie aan hul eise gehoor gegee nie en die staking sou gistermiddag hervat word.
‘GEEN OMDRAAIKANS’
“Daar is geen omdraaikans nie, die staking sal vir ’n onbepaalde tyd voortduur. Maar as die regering môre toegee aan ons eise, sal ons dit stopsit,” sê Raymond Majongwe, hoofsekretaris van die PTUZ.
Paul Mavhima, minister van onderwys, sê hy het by die vakbonde gepleit om die onderhandelinge ’n kans te gee aangesien die regering na maniere soek om sommige van hul griewe op te los.
“Hulle moet gelei word deur oorweging te gee aan die groter nasionale belang wat in hierdie geval die welsyn van die leerlinge is,” het Mavhima aan verslaggewers gesê.
Grootskaalse geweld het in Januarie voorgekom toe ’n staking van drie dae teen pres. Emmerson Mnangagwa se besluit om die prys van brandstof met 150% te verhoog, in betogings ontaard het.
