Parliamentarian, Modestus Amutse launched the Thikamapo Biogas Farming, a small-scale renewable energy entrepreneurial project that aims at driving Namibia to self-reliance in energy production at Oshikuku in the Omusati Region.

The project also aims at ensuring the country's food security, poverty eradication, contributing to creation of employment opportunities and sustainable development.

Thikamapo Biogas Farming is a brainchild of a local entrepreneur, Vilho Kalimbo, whom Amutse said is one of the young Namibians with excellent innovative ideas that need to be emulated by others.

Amutse narrated that Thikamapo Biogas Farming is an initiative that aims at increasing production capacity in the country and as such, the project deserves to be supported by all citizens.

Support

He also suggested that other young people, who are coming up with innovative ideas in the country, be offered the necessary support and should be invited to platforms where they would display their potential.

Established at Oshikuku last year, the project embarked on biogas production by passing waste, such as food waste, leaves, grass cuttings, carrot tops, potato peels and any biodegradable waste through a modern small-scale biogas digester system.

“This kind of renewable energy activity helps individual households, gardeners and town councils to deal with organic waste in a more productive and valuable manner,” stated Kalimbo during the launch.

Thikamapo has five young people, who are currently working as volunteers towards prosperity until that day the project will start generating income, said Kalimbo. - Nampa
