Immanuel ‘Imms’ Paulus has called on local boxing promoters to work together as a way of developing the sport.
He was speaking at the official launch of AC Promotions in Windhoek last week, where he said local fighters must face each other for local titles, in order to promote boxing.
“Local fights do not need marketing, they sell themselves and sponsors will come on board and support the local boxers when they fight each other. As promoters we must work together and avoid infighting, as this does not help build the sport,” he said.
He added that local boxers have the ability to pull large crowds, as they will be able to bring their families, friends and fans to boxing matches, hence improving the crowd attendance that has been dwindling lately.
Regarding the launching of a promotion company, Paulus said it has always been his dream to afford boxers an opportunity to display their talents.
“In 2016 we started with a boxing academy and gym under AC Sports and Entertainment; we then followed it up with a radio show, which helped us engage with the public, especially in letting people know what boxing was all about,” he added.
He said AC Promotions will work with local and international promoters.
“I believe I can groom a fighter until continental heights, but I have to get someone who will then take these boxers to international levels. Internationally we will work with the likes of Global Boxing Stars Promotions, which is close to Viva Manny Pacquiao Promotions,” he said.
Paulus said this will help to take fighters to the next level, as this partnership will provide opportunities worldwide.
He said there is a lot of talent not exposed or given opportunities, hence they decided to promote any boxer in the country who is talented enough.
Paulus also revealed that AC Promotions will host an eight-bout boxing bonanza under the theme ‘Rising Stars of Africa’, with the main bout featuring Sakaria ‘Desert Storm’ Lucas against Yamikikani Mkandawire of Malawi.
The fight will take place at Paragon Crescent Suits in Windhoek on 6 December.
Other bouts will feature Flaim Nangolo against David Johannes, Max Iipinge against Hedison Nghipondoka, Ebenestus Kaangundue against Kagiso Bagwasi of Botswana, Steven Bagwasi versus Sheehama Sakaria, Kathano Ogaketse from Botswana against David Shinua and Matias Hamunyela against Nghikevali Mathew.
John Endjala of the J&P Group of Companies was named as the patron of AC Promotions.
Thomas Mabuku from the Namibia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Control Board congratulated Paulus, saying his promotion company had the blessings of the board.
