Payout project's first exercise went without a hitch, says CEO
THE launch of the Basic Income Grant (BIG) pilot project payout in Otjivero last month went smoothly due to the tight team effort between the coalition co-ordinators of the project and the United Africa Group (UAG) payout service.
UAG was approached to become the official paymasters by the coalition spearheading this campaign, to handle the logistics of distributing the N$100 cash grant to about a 1 000 registered beneficiaries at the settlement for the two year duration period, whilst the feasibility and future of the project is being determined.
Brian Rubinstein, CEO of United Africa Group, attributed their involvement with this revolutionary income grant payout as a result of the company’s solid track record for distributing the country’s extensive pension payout for nearly a decade.
Rubinstein, who was present during the official launch of the country’s first ever payout project in the poverty-stricken settlement of Otjivero, said the United paymaster division was commissioned on the basis of the company’s proven reliability to deliver. Whilst he noted that the Otjivero grant payout is on a smaller scale compared to the national pension delivery, he reinforced the point that the company is applying the same stringent methods and high security modus operandi used to distribute Government funds.
The payout process employs the necessary infrastructure which includes a sophisticated smart card system, a network of trained staff, a fleet of specially equipped vehicles and high priority security to transport the money to the more remote areas of the country.
"We are now in a position to work together with the BIG payout co-ordinators in an effort to meet the challenge of addressing poverty head-on and are proud to have been handpicked as a partner in this endeavour," he said.
"This project is a showcase for the rest of world and a turning point in the lives of many people in Namibia, which is why it was essential that the BIG coalition hooked up with an efficient company, able to do justice to this humanitarian cause.
"This project falls well within the philosophy of the United Africa Group to better the lives of the people of Namibia." The United paymaster system will continue for the duration of the two year pilot project to pay out the funds on behalf of BIG co-ordinators.
