Players line up for Federation Pairs

The Windhoek Golf & Country Club will host the 2018 Safety Kit Federation Pairs event this weekend.
“We are very proud of the excellent number of entries (64), especially during these tough economic times, with quite a number of players travelling from the coastal and northern regions to come and participate.
“We are also extremely thankful for our annual sponsor, Ernest Calitz and Safety Kit, for again agreeing to sponsor this prestigious Federation event,” says club vice-captain Gavin van Wyk.
Players will take to the course for two rounds on tomorrow (betterball, followed by foursomes in round 2) and one round on Sunday (individual/own ball).

JUNIORS
The Omeya Junior Open, the first Junior Open of the year, took place at Omeya Golf Club recently.
The A and B division played 36 holes medal format. Players in the C division and non-handicapped division played 18 holes of stableford format, while the Development group competed over six shortened holes.
The juniors enjoyed playing on a pristine course with super quick greens. Omeya golf club manager Dan Zwiebel and greenkeeper Jaco van Reenen were praised for doing an exquisite job.
Jaco van Reenen, head coach of the Namibia junior golf team, did outstanding graft over the last five weeks with the top 10 Namibian junior players and the result showed in the scores. Henco Rieckert, Marthinus Marais, Willie Els and Cilliers Sachse played all under 80 gross and the pressure was on. At the end Marthinus won by 1 shot and Henco finished second.
The development group played 6 shortened holes and JP Johnson won comfortable with 26 shots and second was Suné Hougaard with 36. They also had a putting competition and Christopher Ferreira ended up the winner after three playoffs.

Overall net winner: Cilliers da Silva 141.
A division gross winner: Henco Rieckert 162; Net winner: Janneman Brand 151
B division gross winner: Willie Els 172; Net winner: E. Ndakalako 157.
C division: 1 Tristin van Zyl (37 points), 2 JJ Grebe (33), 3 Kyle Johnnson (27).
Non-handicapped division: 1 Gerhard Genis, 2 Yura Ryvkine, 3 Alejandro Gillmer.
Development division: 1 JP Johnnson (26 shots), 2 Suné Hougaard (34), 3 Christopher Ferreira (34).
Putting competition winner: Christopher Ferreira.
