PowerCom to construct 19 towers in 2020
Greenfield towers will be constructed as part of the company’s 2019/20 capital expenditure financial year.
PowerCom plans to spend N$27 million in 2020 to construct 19 network towers across the country.
A media statement by the company indicates that they have identified Khomas, Hardap, Erongo, Otjozondjupa and the northern regions to be the recipients of the towers.
The first phase of the construction will commence in January 2020 and will begin at Walvis Bay Harbour, Walvis Bay Golf Course, Walvis Bay Extension 17, Rehoboth-Swartkoppie Road and Hage Heights, it said.
These towers are expected to be commissioned in March 2020.
“Within these plans, greenfield towers are being constructed as part of the 2019/20 capital expenditure financial year,” the statement reads.
Improved connectivity
PowerCom’s chief executive officer Alisa Amupolo said the plan reiterates the commitment of the company to improve connectivity across the country for the benefit of all Namibians.
“Construction of new towers, especially in rural areas, brings a vastly improved connectivity to citizens and businesses. In this way, PowerCom is adding value to the Namibian economy, stimulating the development of other businesses and increasing the effectiveness of communication across the whole country,” she said.
The statement also said PowerCom will continue to invest in existing infrastructure to prolong their lifespan and ensure they are robust enough to effectively provide services for on-board clients in the future. - Nampa
