Pro-Choice, Pro-Health, Pro-Prosperity
DR. A.C. OBHOLZER WRITES: Namibia is a secular democracy. Your religion or belief is therefore your personal choice.
Information is knowledge, which provides the power of choice and security. In order for society to reap the fruits of prosperous liberation, women must be empowered. They are the mothers of tomorrow.
A woman not in charge of how many children and when she (the family) can afford them, is not free (carrying capacity of family).
The key, to breaking the cycle of poverty, is female empowerment (through education), access to contraceptives and selective pro-choice abortions if need be – as a last resort. We are not a Taliban State, with Sharia Law, where women are treated as minor second-class citizens, to pleasure and serve men.
In Namibia, women are however equal to men on paper only. Why would we otherwise need a Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare and a Ministry of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare?
Read the Book The Moment of Lift, on how empowering women changes the world, written by Melinda Gates.
Again, a woman not in charge of how many children she can afford, and wants, and when, is not free.
Some churches oppose contraception and see red on the abortion issue.
But, do not blame God for unplanned mistakes. The church has a very poor record of looking after the welfare of orphans, for example in Ireland, France, Canada and Australia.
Empower women and their children out of poverty, for Vision 2030.
