From Friday morning through till Sunday, the Okahandja Reitclub, one of the oldest equestrian centres in the country, will be host to close to 80 riders and over a hundred horses vying for honours in different classes of dressage and showjumping.

The dressages begin early each morning with the top horses strutting their stuff to the dressage enthusiast on Sunday from 08:30 with the Pony Riders E and Junior/Adult EM classes.

Showjumping on the large and inviting arena begins on Friday afternoon with the Welcome Stakes for classes from 70cm to 1.40m. Excitement will then build up through Saturday morning with the American Jump-off and precision and speed classes.

This is followed by the grooming competition ahead of the tournament’s showcase, the annual Derby (a longer than normal course which includes cross-country type fences such as the Devil’s Dyke, Table, Wall and Water Jumps) for the 1.00 metre, 1.10 metre and Open competitors.

The Accumulator classes will be run on Sunday morning ahead of the final parade and prize-giving scheduled for 13:30.

Apart from the season’s top adult performers, the show will also see the eight juniors under the YOG Development Programme of the Namibian Equestrian Federation (Nadine Flemming, Anike Maritz, Jessica Kreiner, Pia Gebhardt, Ramona Röschlau, Ariane Wieland, Elisabeth Rossouw and Linda Freyer) in action.

They will use this show as preparation for their second opportunity to qualifying for the Africa Youth Games and Youth Olympics during the National FNB Showjumping Championships and FEI World Jumping Challenge second leg taking place at Kapp Stables east of Windhoek in two weeks’ time.

Currently Nadine Flemming is the only one who has obtained her certificate of capability for the Youth Olympic Games and the qualification for the Africa Youth Games.
