RMB Namibia sponsors festival
For the first time, RMB Namibia has sponsored the RMB Concerto Festival, an event held annually by the Ministry of Education’s College of Arts with an amount of N$141 348. The festival, which took place on 5 and 6 August, held in memory of Ernst and Valerie van Biljon, has as its main aim the development and showcasing of the musical talent of Namibian youth.
RMB Namibia’s sponsorship of the RMB Namibia Concerto Festival is a part of its developmental objectives which include arts and culture.
“We believe arts and culture are an important part of the Namibian landscape and RMB Namibia hopes it can help local talent achieve their full potential,” says RMB Namibia Head: Conrad Dempsey.
“We are particularly interested in the development of young musicians and encourage them to continue their music studies and musical achievements.”
Among the musicians performing at this year’s RMB Concerto Festival were conductor Alexander Fokkens, who has extensive experience both locally and internationally, guest soloist Gunter Weyermüller, a professional Namibian musician now playing for the Berlin National Symphony Orchestra in Germany, and soloist Eike Coetzee.
The RMB Concerto Festival took place at the National Theatre of Namibia where performers were accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra. The programme included some familiar classics such as Beethoven’s Romance in F Major performed by Eike Coetzee, Mozart’s “Deh vieni non tardar” from The Marriage of Figaro, performed by Lydia#Ouses, and old time favourite Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera performed by Nadine Baas.
