Rosh Pinah Expo the place to be
“THE countdown has started and this week we travel south to Rosh Pinah to showcase our products,” says a visibly excited Bertha Haitembu, owner of Katuturabased Ndawapeka Jersey Supply. “I have been preparing for the past month as expanding my business to southern Namibia is part of my business growth strategy,” adds Haitembu.
The firm produces a range of knitted garments and stylish dresses. The Rosh Pinah Expo 2008 takes place this week in the southern mining town over two days on the 25 and 26 April. Danny Meyer, director of local firm SMEs Compete says 22 SMEs from Windhoek, Walvis Bay, Arandis, Oshakati and Ongwediva will be part of the record breaking 54 exhibitors at the event.
He says the event is a major boost for the town’s local economy. SMEs Compete provides business capacity building support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The firm operates three branches around Namibia in Windhoek, Walvis Bay and Ongwediva.
Meyer says the 22 small firms attending the market access event in Rosh Pinah have received funding support from the German Development Service, Deutscher Entwicklungsdienst (DED). Sponsorship covers transport and accommodation during the groups four day stay in Rosh Pinah.
The SMEs have all been specially selected from diverse sectors and include manufactures of garments, leather products, health and beauty care products, producers of detergents and other cleaning material, local art and craft producers as well as printing and catering service providers.
They all have demonstrated ability to do business beyond the confines of the urban area where they are located, says Meyer. The Expo in Rosh Pinah has attracted 54 exhibitors making it more than double the size of last year’s pioneering show.
Organized by SMEs Compete with the support of Skorpion Zinc, Exxaro Rosh Pinah Zinc Corporation and First National Bank, Meyer says the initiative forms part of a longerterm local economic development strategy for Rosh Pinah as the town moves towards proclamation as a municipality.
