Sanlam Coastal Marathon set for Independence Day
The Sanlam Coastal Marathon has pulled out all the stops to attract at least 1 000 runners this year.

The 2020 Sanlam Coastal Marathon will take place on 21 March, which is Independence Day.
The event is expected to be bigger and better than ever before with Sanlam marketing and communications manager Hilaria Graig saying that they have contacted all the athletic clubs to register runners for the race.
Graig said she was not yet sure of the big names but it was still early days and registration usually only picks up in the last two weeks before race day.
The marathon will offer four race categories, namely a 5 km fun run/walk, and races over 10, 21 and 42.2 km.
“Our goal is to make the Sanlam Coastal Marathon the best in the country and every year we go out of our way to make the event bigger and better and improve on the shortcomings of the previous year,” said Graig.
Graig added that this year the marathon will be held over the Independence weekend, carrying through the theme of celebrating Namibia’s independence.
The winners of the 42.2 km race will walk away with a cash prize of N$15 000 and automatic qualification for Africa’s only IAAF Gold Label marathon, the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon taking place in October 2020, with all expenses paid.
Entry tickets are available online via EventsToday at www.today.com.na/events or via the PayToday App or at any Airtime City kiosk. Tickets are going for N$30 for 5 km, N$60.00 for 10 km and N$100 for the 21 and 42.2 km races.
The closing date for entries is Tuesday, 17 March. Runners will run the Swakopmund / Henties Bay route and at clearly indicated points will turn around and end back at the Pro-Ed Akademie in Swakopmund where the race started. Number collection will take place at the Pro-Ed Akademie on 20 March from 15:00 until 18:00.

Second place: N$10 000
Third place: N$5 000
The 21 km:
First place N$5 000
Second place N$3 000
