The Klipdrift Gold Cup held at the Windhoek Country Club course last weekend was narrowly won by local prodigy Gabriel Shikodi.

As the longest-running and most prestigious local tournament apart from the Namibian Open, it is played over two days and 54 holes for the A and B divisions and over 36 holes for the C division.

The heat was excruciating and players had to dig deep to ensure that they remained focused and hydrated. The first day ended with Likius Nande leading Shikodi by nine strokes. Shikodi however came back on Sunday by shooting 72 to win by one stroke against Nande, who struggled on the final day.

At the prize-giving the vice-president of the Namibia Amateur Golf Union, Mr Hafeni Nghinamwaami, conveyed the sincere gratitude of all golfers to Mr Giovanni Tripodi from Distell and their Klipdrift brand for their continued support to the game in Namibia.

RÖSSMUND

The course at Swakopmund is in excellent condition with all the fairways nicely cut; tee boxes all spruced up and the greens running smoothly. The hectic time of the year is ahead when lots of extra feet will be moving over the course.

The club committee appeals to each and everyone to please mend pitch marks, fix your divots and rake the bunkers. If each one does his bit, the course will stay fantastic.

Last Saturday was a club sponsored individual stableford competition with quite a few visitors from across the river. There were no two-clubs, however some great scores came out tops. The winner was Andrew van Schalkwyk on 43 points, followed by Dean Kock (40) and third-placed Desmond Benson (38).

• Last Sunday the SAGES decided to squeeze in an extra competition before the year-end, sponsored by themselves. The weather was perfect and the “old crowd” had a great morning. There were nearest to the pin prizes on holes number 7 and 12, both going to Tony Boesch. The winners on the day was Achmet Abrahams (38 points), while Tony (36) was favoured by the count-out over Bertie Saunderson.

• Tomorrow Rössmund will host the final round in the 2016 Novanam Medal Masters tournament. This is considered the last chance to go “feeshing” for this year and at the same time play some real golf.

• On 26-27 November the Rössmund Ladies Open will be sponsored by The Swakopmund Collection.

OMEYA

Floor World stepped up to the plate this year to sponsor Namibia''s first ever Par 3 Challenge series.

The Par 3 Challenges were started last year with the main aim of offering a shortened and exciting version to players. Players tee off with a shotgun start playing nine short holes ranging from 50 to 130 meters.

This format gives all players the opportunity to test their short game skills, playing from areas which they are not familiar with. This year''s series consisted of five events with players being rewarded for supporting the series by means of overall prizes after the fifth and final round.

Omeya Golf Club would like to thank Floor World owner Abe Louw for sponsoring this format and hereby giving the opportunity to add an exciting new format to one of the oldest sport types.

The club is also proud to announce that Floor World has renewed its sponsorship agreement and will be back in 2017 as title sponsor of an even better and more exciting Floor World Par 3 Challenge.

The overall winners were Riaan Liebenberg on 90 points, followed by Dan Zwiebel (83) and third-placed Lydia Lumley on 82.

• Tomorrow Dulux returns to end off a very successful inaugural Dulux betterball series. This year consisted of four events with the couples'' pairs of Riaan and Jane Liebenberg and Frikkie and Anecia le Grange battling it out from the get go.

In joint second overall Willie Prinsloo and Bertus Nel will have to pull weight to catch the Liebenbergs, with Roland Ludwig and Bjarne Graupe a further three points behind.

Director of JF Paints Gielie Bester will also be in tomorrow''s 70-man field. Omeya''s golf management would like to wish him a hearty welcome and also convey its sincere appreciation for sponsoring this very popular series.
