Shoprite helps to uplift communities
A Shoprite team managed fed over 1 000 children and provided food parcels to more than 1 560 families last Saturday.
Julienne van Rooyen - The Shoprite team in collaboration with a multitude of suppliers, targeted the informal settlement of Havana on Saturday in their “Act for Change” drive.
A total of 1 000 parcel goodie bags were handed out at the USave in Havana to children identified by their community leaders as being in need. The food parcels consisted of hotdogs, and cooldrinks, along with a variety of non-perishable goods such as pastas and canned goods, as well as toiletries and hand sanitisers.
In this way, the team managed to feed over 1 000 children and provided food parcels to more than 1 560 families on the day. Local celebrity TopCheri also made an appearance at the event.
At the same occasion, the team provided ingredients to a soup kitchen in Havana and handed out masks to individuals that were in need of them.
The campaign is part of Shoprite’s aim to uplift communities and to contribute to the wellbeing of those in need.
