The Nedbank Cycle Challenge is just six days away and cyclists have expressed excitement regarding the competition.
The competition will take place on Sunday, 16 February, with hundreds of athletes expected to grace the road for top honours.
The Nedbank Cycle Challenge will be contested over 20km, 30km, 60km and 100km.
“I am very excited about this year's competition and I will definitely give my all during the competition.
“We will obviously not race for winning places because there are those who are masters at what they do, but we will be there for the fun and fitness.
“I believe that 20 kilometres will be the ideal distance for me and my family,” cyclist John Maritz said.
Meanwhile, Tjipekapora Kandjii says he will be at the event to watch and cheer for the cyclists.
Kandjii has been a proud supporter of the Nedbank Cycling Challenge for many years.
“I do not have the legs to cycle with the rest but I do have the voice to give my utmost support to those competing.
“I have been following the challenge for many years and I feel that it has really grown from strength to strength.
“It is always nice to wake up early on a Sunday morning to watch the guys doing what they know best,” Kandjii said.
The competition also allows youngsters to showcase their talent at the Nedbank Kidz Challenge, slated for Saturday, 15 February.
The MTB marathon championship, which usually takes place during the cycle challenge, falls away this year.
Dan Craven is the defending champion in the men's category after he completed 100km in a time of 2:26:19 last year.
Vera Adrian won the women's category over 100km, clocking 2:53:39.
