The White Stallions of Samsung Wanderers 1 (198/1 in 24.2 overs) secured a spot in the final of Cricket Namibia’s competition for premier league clubs after beating Trustco United 1 (197 all out in 48 ov) by nine wickets in the first semi-final at Wanderers in Pionierspark on Saturday afternoon.
United won the toss and decided to bat first. The Filistines’ runs came mainly from the willows of Shaun Fouché (53 runs, 96 balls, 5x4), Michael van Lingen (32, 34 b, 5x4), Darren van Dyk (31, 38 b, 4x4, 1x6) and Chris Freeman (40, 48 b, 2x4, 3x6) for a total of 156.
The rest of their batsmen only contributed 33 runs complemented by eight extras (three wides and five no-balls) to reach 197 all out.
For the guests, Jan Frylinck took one wicket for 25 runs in his six overs, while Karl Birkenstock (3 for 39 in 9 ov), Bernard Scholtz (2/37 in 10, 1 empty ov bowled), Ruben Claassen (1/22 in 5) and Danie van Schoor (3/24 in 6) finished the onslaught. However, it is the bowling of captain JJ Smit (0/20 in 8, 2 empty) that made him - with 2.5 runs per over - the most economical.
No half-century joy for Davin
Niko Davin (48, 29 b, 5x4, 3x6) and JC Balt (83, 78 b, 12x4, 1x6) opened the batting for Wanderers. The pair did not spare the United bowlers, chasing the winning total with a whopping 10 runs per over. Davin wanted to reach his half century (50 runs) with a six when he was caught by Fouché on 48.
Birkenstock (54, 39 b, 4x4, 3x6) joined Balt on number three in the middle to finish a successful day with 198 runs in 24.2 overs at the office for the White Stallions.
For the visitors, only Hendrik van der Walt was successful when he took Davin’s wicket for 34 runs in three overs. Freeman (0/27 in 5 ov) was the most economical for United with 5.4 runs per over.
Balt was crowned Man of the Match for his 83 runs not out.
The second semi-final between Ceiling Centre WHS Old Boys 1 and CCD Tigers 1 took place at the Vegkop Stadium in the capital yesterday afternoon. The final is scheduled for next Saturday at Wanderers.
