Standard Bank supports blood drive

The ever charitable Standard Bank employees this week broke their own record during a blood drive at the bank's head offices.

The blood drive which was held on Monday 29 May by the Namibian Blood Transfusion Service saw 38 employees at the Wellness and Medical Centre where they donated as many units as they possibly could.

Standard Bank's Wellness Consultant Cecile Fouche said the blood drive went well as both long-time blood donors and younger employees saw the importance of donating blood.

“Donating blood is a voluntary process which our staff have taken very seriously. It is a very important because there are a lot of road accidents and there is a shortage of blood, so we all need to donate,” said Fouche.

Echoing the same sentiment, donor recruiter from the Blood Transfusion Service Natangwe Muafangejo says that with common diseases like malaria, anemia, cancer and inevitable emergency cases due to road accidents and crime, blood supply for the Blood Transfusion Service is highly critical, especially the much needed O+ blood group.

A regular donor for 32 years is Mossie de Klerk of Standard Bank who says that she donates blood to make a life changing difference. “My blood type is said to be scarce and that is why I see the importance of saving a life in order to help others as well.”

The Namibian Blood Transfusion Service staff who visit Standard Bank every second or third month said they were also pleased with the turnout because it is the best they have had and hope it will only increase in months to come.
