RMB Namibia through the FNB Foundation started supporting the Kids on Bikes development project in 2016 and thus far this cycling development project has been taken to numerous regions and towns in Namibia, the latest one having been held in Rundu where almost 90 children took part.

The event in Rundu was part of the Namibian Cycling Federation’s (NCF) 5-year development plan to encourage cycling, and notably BMX as a cycling discipline, amongst youngsters at grassroots level.

The “Kids on Bikes” project is promoted by RMB Namibia through the FNB Namibia Holdings Foundation Trust, and has seen youngsters from Omuthiya, Okahandja, Gobabis, Omaruru and Rundu participate in these events over the last year.

At all towns, coaches were trained by the Namibian Cycling Federation to ensure that the project remains ongoing and active in their respective communities. Thus far 521 youngsters have participated and this year RMB sponsored an amount of N$50 750 towards the Rundu NCF BMX Centre for early rider development.

RMB Namibia’s Odille Wellmann enthused that RMB Namibia was excited about being part of the project. “The many developmental objectives of the project are commendable and the FNB Foundation and RMB Namibia are happy to support such initiatives which bring young Namibians together while teaching them a skill and emphasizing the importance of exercise and spending time outdoors.”

The Mayor of Rundu, Her Worship Verna Sinimbo attended the day’s event and expressed her gratitude towards the bank and NCF. Ervin Hafen from Vonke Electrical and Docky Olavi from M&D Construction donated water, juices and fruits for the children. The donation was highly appreciated by the participants during the warm day.
