The arrogance of power corrupts absolutely

Audrey Van Der Westhuizen
Nghiningiluandubo Kashume, Secretary of Information and Publicity writes on behalf of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP):

The Rally for Democracy and Progress wishes to remind the Namibian citizens that arrogance of power corrupts absolutely and that corruption in Namibia is deep, systematic and widespread. When the RDP pointed out that the ruling party, SWAPO has lost vision and is now pursuing the agenda of self-enrichment schemes, some Namibians die not believe but the writing was clearly on the wall.

The Nation can recall the N$660 million GIPF candal, which in actual fact is N$6.5 billion of looting; the N$100 million ODC saga and the N$30 million Avid/Social Security debacle. All these were public funds being taken to benefit a few individuals in the Ocean of grinding poverty inflicting the masses.

Does the Namibian Nation need reminding about the N$14 Billion TEEPEG self-enrichment scheme that was meant to create employment opportunities for the Namibian poor masses and save them from their sub-standard Kambashu housing system?

What about the N$5.7 billion oil storage facility in Erongo Region and the N$750 000 per toilet in Omusati Region?

The above mentioned incidences are nothing than the rot that continues as the ruling party lost vision. The so-called N$150 million Fishrot scandal, which in actual fact is worth N$2.5 billion, is a continuation of the well calculated unethical and immoral behaviour of the ruling party. What is painful, however is that the masses continue suffering in terms of healthcare, education, unemployment, lack of housing, inequality, poverty, hunger and neglect.

The ruling party has adopted an "I don’t care" attitude and poor governance, something that cannot move this country forward. With this attitude the Nation must forget to be lifted out of poverty and the economy will not improve to create job opportunities particularly for the unemployed youth.

RDP will continue to impress upon and mobilize the citizens of the country to wake up and realize that the ruling party will not liberate them from abject poverty and the widespread unemployment. It is sad that instead of prioritizing the needs of the society and listen to the outcry of the masses, the ruling elites are competing among themselves as to who is driving what vehicle and who is having how much stolen millions from the unsuspecting public.

Namibia is stolen dry by the ruling SWAPO Party leaders and the economy continues to fall. Unless SWAPO get reminded about the damage they are inflicting upon the Namibian people and begin to listen and stop their greed, the economy of the country will be brought to its knees and the suffering will be overwhelming.

What should be done?

RDP demands that a moratorium of three months be imposed and demand the return of all stolen public funds to the treasury. Failure to do so must result in individuals getting arrested, assets frozen, impounded and or repossessed by the state. The practices of implementing unwritten policy of getting criminals scot-free are not sustainable and must be stopped immediately.
