The child: My name is Tomorrow, not Mistake
DR. A C OBHOLZER WRITES:
Namibia’s most important assets is its people.
In 2021 the nation is however in crisis mode, socio-economically.
The economy has been in recession since 2017. In 2018/19 we suffered the drought of the century. The corrupt Fishrot scandal was exposed. Then came Covid-19, which overwhelmed health services, shut schools, locked down tourism, with loss of income and job security.
People are stressed out.
A new culture of begging by child and adult has emerged. The promise of Vision 2030 has faded. We are in survival mode, from one day to the next.
When you, my biological parents, made me, did you plan to stay together to love and look after me with food, clothing, housing, school, health and role model guidance?
A shack with no ventilation spreads TB, Measles, Influenza and Covid-19 by air.
There is no sexual privacy for my parents at night.
There is no food security.
There is no hygiene - water, soap and toilet.
There is no place for me to do my homework or light!
There is no place to play safely.
My “father” gets drunk at the end of the month, if he has work, and sometimes beats my mother.
I lose my schooling and am forced to beg at robots.
I sniff glue to forget.
Why did you make me, only to abandon me?
What is my future?
This family has no caring, carrying capacity.
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
