The Stinger has arrived
The first two of three Kia Stingers allotted to Namibia were introduced to the motoring public in Windhoek last week.
One of the year’s most anticipated releases, the fiery, yet family-friendly Kia Stinger, has finally arrived in Namibia and attracted huge interest when it was launched at Kia’s Windhoek showroom last week.
The long wait proved to be completely worthwhile, as the performance sedan immediately set the scene alight by offering a coming-of-age sports car whose whole mission in life is to show off Kia’s ‘Power to Surprise’.
“When I started selling Kia vehicles back in 1990, let’s just say they weren’t the easiest cars to sell. However, over the years the engineers and designers have elevated the brand to one of the most sought-after in the global market,” Willie Verdoes, MD of Associated Motor Holdings, said at the launch event, which quickly hotted up when the first two of three Stingers allotted to Namibia menacingly took the room.
Evocative and Exclusive
Only 25 of these four-door family fastbacks were allocated to Southern Africa, and this definitely makes the Stinger one of the rarest rides on our local roads. Seriously, there are more Bentleys in Windhoek than there ever will be Stingers, and that is somewhat epic in itself.
On that note, it’s definitely worthwhile to mention that there is still one more Stinger heading for Namibia. Its new owner can choose both the colour and interior, but you don’t have much time to get that order in, as its instant cult status had it sold out almost immediately in South Africa.
“The award-winning Kia Stinger has become a global phenomenon, thanks to evocative design and acclaimed performance. So much so, that the majority of the 25 Stingers allocated for Southern-Africa were already spoken for without even having been seen or test-driven by their new owners,” said Gizelle Canavan, customer experience manager at KIA Motors South Africa.
Bold, yet can cart the brood
After following the Stinger in the media for some time, one becomes quite aware of its prolific performance, but it’s only when you see it up close and personal that the 3.3-litre, twin-turbo V6, good for 272 kW and 510 Nm from just 1300 rpm, makes a case for itself as a ferocious, yet functional family sedan.
Four doors, decent rear seats and proper boot put the Stinger right up there with the German performance sedans, albeit at about half the price.
At N$850 000, the Kia Stinger is not only a steal, but is a vehicle that will bring you unparalleled bang for your buck, whether you’re taking the kids for ice-cream or taking on the competition at the track.
