Top athletes from participating schools
Franco Josea Berg (Berg-Op Akademie), Belia Kruger (Moria Privaatskool) en Trudie Kruger (Moria Privaatskool) - We grabbed the opportunity to meet and greet the top performers of schools present at the Napso Private School’s Weekend. It was an honour to come face to face with the athletes we only see and read about in newspapers. Some of the interviewed athletes already represented the country in different sport codes and are still pursuing their vision of getting Namibia on the world sport map.
Berg-Op Academy - Okahandja
Giovanni "King" Nanuseb, a grade 11 learner who is one of the outstanding athletes at the school, plays rugby for the u/19 school team. He plays as eighth man after starting out as a prop in primary school. He recently competed at the Craven Week u/19 trials but unfortunately did not make it.
Edugate Academy - Otjiwarongo
One of the best goal defenders present in schools’ netball, Anja Barnard, hails all the way from Otjiwarongo. She will do anything to stop goal scorers from scoring and has shown more than once that she is capable of coming away with a clean sheet quite easily.
Gobabis Gymnasium Private School
With the ambition to play internationally, Christian Barnard, eighth man of Gobabis Gymnasium has full confidence to achieve what seems to be a childhood wonder-dream. At the age of 14 Christian seems to be a leader on the pitch already with his teammates wondering where to help next time he gets the ball.
Grootfontein Agri College
When approaching the team for an interview with their top player, there were two of equal quality; the fly half, Ludwig Huber and the inside-centre, Damien Bassardien. They play for the u/15 rugby team and have enormous skill reading the game. They partner up to tear apart defences with unbelievable skill, offloads and set pieces.
Keetmanshoop Private School
A lot of rugby stars come from schools in Windhoek, but Jandré Roberts has shown that every player can be a star. Playing lock for KPS's u/19 first team, Roberts comes in with experience and his physical appearance can be regarded as a contributing factor to cultivate fear in opponents. His ability in the lineouts is something to be reckoned with because against Jandré you won't get that ball without a fight.
Maurits Devenish Private School - Ongwediva
Calling himself Cheslin Kolbe, Milano Koopman is certainly living up to expectations. Quick feet, dazzling runs and unpredictable sidesteps makes the little fly half a difficult opponent to play against. The 14-year-old is also the team's captain and is always ready to show onlookers how to beat a man with ease. He also says that it's not only skill that matters but intelligence as well; knowing what to do and when to do it.
Elnatan Private School - Stampriet
Louwhan Boltman who plays for Elnatan's u/15 rugby team as an inside-centre, was described as a hard-running player who will try and get anyone out of his way. Developing under the supervision of first-class coaches, Louwhan collects every piece of advice he can get to ensure he has the capabilities to perform at a higher level of competition.
Moria Private School - Outjo
Nico Krone, captain of Moria's u/19 hockey team, accompanies all hockey players and gives them chances where he can correct them and better their performances to build a team with a winning mentality.
Private School Swakopmund
Cameron Orban who plays as a forward for the senior hockey team once again showcased his goal scoring skills over the weekend. He tormented the defences and sometimes performed out of this world. Hopefully he will keep up this good work and become a superb hockey star.
Pro-Ed Academy - Swakopmund
Tall, tough and fearless, another rising star, Riaan Roberts has caught the eye of many spectators. Determined to steal lineouts from opponents and to ensure that his team wins their lineouts, Riaan has become an inspiration to his teammates who continue to find better combinations between themselves. He plays lock for Pro-Ed’s u/14 team.
Tsumeb Gymnasium
This is where the perfect type of a captain can be found. Composed, positive and passionate are the attributes that Tsumeb Gymnasium's u/19 first team captain and outside center, SJ Louw has. One thing is for sure - he always delivers. Very powerful and always looking for a chance to exploit, SJ can never be underestimated because his abilities are unmatchable.
Walvis Bay Private High School
“A leader is someone who takes calculated risks and gets criticized for a mistake but if things work out they are the ones who get all the credit,” say Gordon Tredgold. However, for some leaders, plans always work out and that's the case for WBPHS's u/15 rugby team's inside-centre, Jivino Polster who’s decisions on the pitch pay off. He would shift around his backline or instruct some forwards to carry out certain plays that always boosts the team's chances of victory. Quick off the ground and tricky with ball in hand, Polster contributes marvellously to his team.
Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool
Playing at outside-center for WAP’s u/14 rugby team, André Siepker is an exciting prospect in the rugby industry. Fast, powerful and smart, the grade 8 learner has sights on becoming the next Jacques Fourie in the near future. Being at a sport-focused school, André has the full advantage and capacity of developing and working towards becoming a national team player.
