Top dog breeders rewarded

The Hochland Dog Club recently hosted their annual championship show under the affiliation of the Kennel Union of Southern Africa (KUSA).

What made this year's shows unique is that the club hosted a cluster show weekend with three championship shows. The shows were well attended with the highest amount of entries in years and exhibitors from both Namibia and South Africa.

The judges for the Saturday shows were Rodney Jarman and Connie Jarman from Durban, while Rosemarie Cabion from Cape Town judged the Sunday show.

The Best in Show prize for all three shows was awarded to Glen and Lyn Harvey's Irish wolfhound Gr. Ch. Glengariff Peyton. Reserve Best in Show as well as Best Namibian Bred in Show was awarded to Gerhard and Conny Maritz's Great Dane named Duneshadow Muse Thaleia.

The Best Puppy in Show for all three shows was awarded to Richard and Diane Hacking's Labrador Retriever Potiphar Oh So Hot of Stagmanskop.

The Breeders Challenge winner for all three shows was won by the stellar Duneshadow Great Danes owned by Gerhard and Conny Maritz. Marizane van der Merwe's Rottweiler from the Corzane kennel took second place.

The junior handling competition was won by Lauren Christine van Niekerk with her Golden Retriever, who also won the non-KUSA junior handling competition during the second show.

Lara van Rensburg won the non-KUSA junior handling competition on Saturday morning. The Open handling competition was won by Glen Steenkamp for both shows, whilst Tatsiana Spivak was placed second for both shows.

The shows weekend would not have been possible without the support of Hills, Optimizor Premium Dog Food as well as Auas Vet Med who all sponsored food prizes for the winners.

Air Namibia's sponsorship of the judges' flight tickets as well as City Cab's transporting the judges in style from and to the airport were well appreciated. Other contributors were Fourie's Nest Guesthouse and Lorenz Rent A Room (for the judges); Soulstice Day Spa, Stellenbosch Wine Bar and Tasting Room, Namib Breweries as well as Pupkewitz Megabuild who sponsored prizes towards the raffle draw.
