Top Score Sevens kicks off today

Football
Top Score, the leading maize meal brand of Namib Mills, launched its annual seven-a-side football tournament, primarily the Windhoek leg, at the Ramblers Soccer Stadium last Tuesday.

Today will be the kickoff for the 19th year that Top Score will be hosting the popular series, which is Namibia's oldest and largest social sports soccer tournament.

The tournament is aimed to provide community upliftment and engagement, and it is Namib Mills' way of rewarding those dedicated and disciplined sportsmen who continue to show spirit and persistence in their support for the Top Score 7-a-side tournament.

Soccer teams in attendance at the launch showed a lot of excitement and team spirit. It was clear that the teams were ready to bring their A-game and showcase their speed, strength and skill in an attempt to be crowned as the Top Score 7-a-side tournament winners.

PRIZE MONEY

This year a total of 77 teams entered the Top Score 7-a-side tournament in Windhoek.

The total investment of this Windhoek tournament is valued at N$250 000. The tournament includes a floating trophy, as well as gold, silver and bronze medals for the top three winning teams.

Prize money includes N$16 000 for the winning team, N$8 000 for the runner-up, N$6 500 for third place and N$2 500 for fourth place.

Speaking at the launch, Senior Brand Manager for Namib Mills, Marné Bouwer stated: “Namib Mills is committed to Namibia. This sports initiative aids the company in investing in a vital staple in the development of our country – its sports.

“A trophy carries dust, but memories last forever, so we want to encourage each and every team to not only give their best in the tournament that lies ahead, but also to enjoy this opportunity to be in the company of fellow soccer sports lovers who continue to show support, dedication and passion towards the game and this tournament.”

Fans and supporters are encouraged to bring their camping chairs and come and support their favourite teams as they compete for this prestigious title.

Entrance is free and the games will take place every weekend, Friday from 18:00 till late and on Saturdays from 14:00 till late. The final weekend is expected in mid-March. This year, organisers also brought in an exciting twist to the tournament with a junior league that will happen every Saturday morning.
