The village of Tses in the

//Karas Region will host the seventh edition of the 2019 Spring Soccer Tournament from 4 to 6 October.

The tournament's organiser, Thomas Tsuseb, says the event is aimed at keeping young people entertained and bringing football to the football-starved residents of the southern village.

“We are also trying to groom unknown players for first-division teams by allowing them to showcase their talents against the experienced guys. This year we expect more teams than the 30 we had last year,” Tsuseb says.

Registrations close on 3 October and the draw will be conducted on 4 October at the Tses village council offices.

The football tournament is open to national second- and third-division teams and non-league teams, with each team allowed to use two first-division players during matches.

The first edition of the tournament was won by Tses Football Club in 2013, with Young Beauties from Keetmanshoop winning the three subsequent editions, while Jerusalem from Keetmanshoop won the 2017 edition and Black Arrows clinched the 2018 edition.

The winners will receive N$25 000 in cash, a floating trophy and 25 gold medals.

Runners-up will walk away with N$15 000 and 25 silver medals.

The semi-final losers will each receive N$2 500, while the top goal-scorer will be rewarded with N$1 000, the best goalkeeper with a trophy, and the most disciplined team with a trophy and match ball.

A 'langarm' dance by BB Connection and Hot Brothers will precede the tournament on Friday, while on Saturday night a Miss Spring Beauty Pageant will take place where each team will be represented by a contestant.

During the day DJ Waxi from Keetmanshoop will entertain the football fans during match breaks.

Tsuseb called on football lovers in the surrounding areas to come out in numbers and cheer their teams on.

“It is not only about football, it is also a chance for young upcoming business people to sell food items during the course of the tournament,” he said.
