The University of Namibia football team were on song on Sunday as they thrashed Karasburg-based Young Brazilians 4-0 to move into the top four of the Namibia Premier League (NPL) log standings.
Before the match UNAM were fifth on the log standing with 38 points. At the UNAM Stadium, however, they struggled to break a resilient Young Brazilians defence as the first half ended 0-0.
In the second half UNAM regrouped and came out firing , finding the back of the net in the 58th minute through Joseph Kungongelwa whose long-range strike caught goalkeeper Christinus Windstaan off guard.
Despite UNAM FC taking the lead, Young Brazilians started having more of the ball possession, which they could not capitalise on as UNAM goalkeeper Charles Uirab was on form, saving shots from Revered Matroos, Wayne Esterhuizen and Bryan Bantam within the span of 10 minutes.
With Young Brazilians not capitalising on their chances, UNAM FC made it rain on the visitors with goals from super-sub Jandja Maharero in the 82nd minute and a brace from Jena Godwin in the 85th and 92nd minutes.
The win puts UNAM in fourth position with 41 points from 27 games. They are just one point above Life Fighters (fifth with 40 points), but behind Tura Magic who are in third position (44).
Other Sunday results: Orlando Pirates 0-1 Mighty Gunners; Citizens 0-0 Okahandja United.
