Henriette Lamprecht
The Scientific Society will boast two public presentations next week. First up is the Ambassadors’ talk on Tuesday 29 November at 19:30, led by die High Commissioner of South Africa, ms. Mavivi Myakayaka-Manzini. On Thursday 01st December 2016 at 19:30, mr. Jimmy Zimmer will do a presentation entitled Angola – ever changing . The talk will focus amongs others on the Million City Lubango; the settlement of the Dorsland Trekkers at Humpata;Tunda Vala, the breath-taking gorge cut out of the volcanic Chela Escarpment; the spectacular Sierra de Leba Pass of 1970 built by a woman; the Christo de Rey statue, a copy of the monument in Rio de Janeiro; Benguela and Lobito with fine beaches and interesting history; as well as die Deutsche Straße where especially German farmers with farm labourers left their footsteps and sweat developing the land. This event serves as an introduction to Namibia Scientific Society’s tour to Angola in May 2017.

Jimmy Zimmer is a passionate Namibian tour guide, an expert for remote areas within Namibia and neighbouring countries. As he lived in Portugal from 1983 -1996 he got to know the Portuguese life style and learned the language.

Since 1997 he is back home and bought Southern Cross Safaris Namibia and New Moon Safaris in Botswana. Always searching for new destinations, Angola was a destination of special historic interest to him. He mainly concentrated on routes to south-western Angola. With former German families he visited their homes before they left the country around 1974. For sure he knows adventurous roads, emotional meetings with farm labourers and profound stories to listen to.

All events are open for public and the venue is at Namibia Scientific Society situated at 10 Robert Mugabe Avenue, opposite National Theatre. Safe parking is available in the yard at the Love street entrance. The opinions expressed during any presentations, films or events are not necessarily in accord with ours.
