Use technology for constructive research
Uutoni is calling upon all other members of Otweya to use this tactic to build their own homes and not just expect the government to do everything.
Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, has called on the youth to use technology to be innovative and develop their communities.
“Instead of misusing cell phones by communicating unverified information, use it to research constructive things that will help develop and build our communities, such as coming up with brickmaking projects which will be used to make bricks to build on the new erven, for example,” Uutoni advised.
The minister was speaking on Thursday during the handover of land occupation certificates to 153 beneficiaries who are also victims of the Twaloloka fire.
Thirty-two of these victims have already been allocated land through the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia (SDFN), for which the construction of 19 houses is almost completed.
“We are strong people as Namibians and we can develop ourselves. No one can come and develop us. However, we can only do this if we prepare ourselves and put aside anger. It is dangerous and once one puts it ahead of you, it occupies the space for creative thinking,” Uutoni said.
He stressed the fact that although these beneficiaries have lost their valuables in the fires, they are now able receive a piece of land they can each call their own and should now strive to build their own homes.
SDFN facilitator in Erongo, Naftal Uutoni called on communities to meet the government halfway in order to acquire land and homes.
He also gave his assurance that the federation saves sufficient money every month to enable them to be in a position to construct houses anytime should land be made available for them.
“I am also calling upon all other members of Otweya to use this tactic to build their own homes and not just expect the government to do everything for you from scratch,” Uutoni said.
About 1 000 residential erven have also been identified at Farm 37 on the outskirts of Walvis Bay, where a number of families living in shacks are also going to be relocated.
The ministry, along with the office of the governor, will also be handing over certificates to land beneficiaries at the envisaged township on Friday. - Nampa
