Walvis prioritises improvement of roads
The municipality of Walvis Bay said it plans to improve the conditions of roads in the coastal town next year.
This includes the upgrading of gravel roads around the Tutaleni area, as well as the rebuilding of a section of Brandberg Street in Kuisebmund to commence early in 2021.
The Walvis Bay municipality said despite the holdup caused by the pandemic and the lockdown, the department of roads and building control managed to move ahead with advanced plans to improve the current condition of roads.
It said a contractor for the annual road repair contract will be appointed this month to attend to pothole repairs and urgent reinstatement of trenches caused by repairs to water and sewer lines.
CONTINUOUS PROGRAMME
“The council is in the process of strengthening the capacity of the internal pothole repair team to improve the turnaround time in attending to road repairs and emergency trench reinstatements,” the municipality said.
It further said that three resealing contractors will be appointed in January and February to undertake the resealing of various roads in Walvis Bay, while the bid to procure the services of engineering consultants to investigate and undertake designs for the rehabilitation of identified existing roads is closing on 11 December.
A continuous road rehabilitation programme will be rolled out over the next couple of years to ensure that roads that have reached their design life are adequately attended to. - Nampa
