For the second consecutive year, Windhoek's two elite squash clubs, Wanderers and Klein Windhoek, will be fighting it out for the honours of best local squash club.

The tournament will be known as the Sanlam & Mobipay Club Challenge 2017, following the sponsorships awarded by Sanlam Namibia, Mobipay and MyExperience.

Over the past two years, both clubs have grown enormously and have both done a lot to grow the game in the capital city.

The clubs have formed a very good relationship and have worked together to improve local squash in all aspects, from junior level to ladies squash, through to improving the standard of squash over all in Namibia, hence the massive growth of players over the last two years.

Now it has come down to crunch time, to see which club is the overall best in the Capital City. Each club will select 32 players, and on Thursday 26 October, all 64 players will go head to head.

Each player will play one match on Thursday, one match on Friday with two matches being played on Saturday, followed by the award ceremony.

Steven Berry, Wanderers Squash Club chairman, says: “Both clubs will be fighting it out for N$10 000 awarded to the winner, with the losing club taking N$2 500 home, so there is a lot to fight for, considering we as Wanderers Club are raising money to upgrade our facilities, as we strive to maintain our high standards and make sure we have world class facilities.

“We have built a very good relationship with our sister club and we can assure that this tournament will be played in good spirit as all players have been looking forward to playing this event all year. But that does not mean we are going to take it lightly, as the N$10 000 prize money will go a long way to helping us upgrade our facilities.”
