A total of 76 players turned out to compete in the betterball stableford competition presented by the Wednesday Afternoon Social Players School (WASPS) at the Windhoek Country Club last Saturday.
Gustav Jung, Gerhard van Rooyen and all the members of the WASPS ensured a great show. The players had fun on the course in spite of a strong and cool easterly wind that affected play on every hole.

2 Aggie Dodds and Des van Heerden – 43 (count-out)

SANLAM CANCER CHALLENGE
Saturday, 23 July will see the playing of the Windhoek qualifying leg of the annual Sanlam Cancer Challenge. Cancer is a disease that affects many Namibians with more than 3 000 new diagnoses every year.
The Sanlam Cancer Challenge is a vehicle for golfers to join the fight against cancer by playing their favourite sport. On top of that, six Namibian golfers (three men and three women) will get the opportunity to travel to South Africa later this year to compete in the Finals tournament.
Wilna Bredenhann from Henties Bay was the 2015 Ladies A division winner of the South African Finals.
Qualifying tournaments are held at clubs all around the country with the generous sponsorship of Sanlam. The finalists of each club then travel to Windhoek on 20 August to decide the six players who will represent Namibia in the finals in South Africa.

WALVIS BAY GOLF DAY A HIT
The generously sponsored Namibia Ship Chandlers golf day at the Walvis Bay course last week in ideal weather conditions drew a relatively small field of 33 players, perhaps as a result of the previous day’s fund raising competition.
The format was an individual stableford with a hidden partner and all players stayed to see who they would be drawn with.
A few 35s and 36s came in early, but the player of the day was Amandio Sardinha who carded a better than average 38 points to win the individual prize.
However the completion was won by Lu-Andre Duvenhage and Pieter van Aarde, who each scored 36 points and were drawn together to end with a massive 72 points. Second place on a count-out was won by Jaans Stander and Wouter van Wijk on 68 points, beating off Koot Potgieter and Percy van Zyl.
Two Walvis Bay players, Koot Potgieter and Pieter van Aarde, will be travelling to Tsumeb to play in the Northern Open.
