Whirling centres of life-force energy
A good guide to the state of our lives
Henriette Lamprecht – Part of the body’s energetic system, it is whirling centres of life-force energy (known as prana or chi) occurring in the body. Interconnected and when their energy is flowing smoothly, one is healthy and balanced physically, emotionally and spiritually. When they are however blocked and their energy becomes stagnate, depleted or excessive, it can have an impact on one’s emotional, mental, physical and even spiritual health.
The state of our chakras are a good guide to the state of our lives, explains chakra-practitioner Suzy Seha.
“None of us are perfect, we all experience some kind of chakra imbalance some of the time. Influenced by our stress, beliefs, past experiences, conditioning and habits, our chakras get out of balance if we do not take care of them. Much like going to the gym or cutting your hair, you understand that you will need regular maintenance to keep in good shape. It is the same with the chakras,” explains Suzy.
Together with the meridians, the chakras are part of the body's energetic system, says Suzy. Correctly pronounced with “ch,” as in “church,” chakra is a word from Sanskrit (the ancient and sacred language of ancient India), meaning “wheel” or “disc”.
“They are not physical in the literal sense – you couldn’t dissect a human body and find the chakras – yet they are experienced in the physical body as a subtle activation of energy in various locations, such as the heart, belly, or throat.”
She mainly works with the seven main chakras within the physical body, with each chakra supporting a physical, emotional and spiritual area of oneself.
Chakra 1 or the Base Chakra is located roughly at the base of the spine and is all about self-preservation, one’s basic needs in life, safety, security, finances, friends and family as well as one’s right to be here. On a physical level it supports the spine, hips, legs, feet, bones, blood circulation and adrenal glands.
Chakra 2 or the Sacral Chakra is located below the belly button. It deals with one’s ability to feel and be creative, sexuality, desire, emotions, sensations, pleasure and a joy for living. On a physical level it supports the bladder, kidneys, reproductive system, lower abdomen and gonads.
Chakra 3 or the Solar Plexus Chakra is located just below where the ribs meet at the solar plexus. It is our personal power centre, working with one’s ability to get what you want out of life, self-esteem, will-power, energy and proactivity. On a physical level it supports the stomach, liver, digestive system, gall bladder and pancreas.
Chakra 4 or the Heart Chakra is located in the centre of the chest. It links the upper 3 and lower 3 chakras and is all about gratitude, unconditional love, compassion, relationships, forgiveness and self-love. The physical areas governed are the heart, lungs, circulation system, thymus, hands and arms.
Chakra 5 of the Throat Chakra is located at the base of the throat. It is one’s centre of communication, truth, self-expression, listening to and finding one's voice and also creativity. On a physical level it supports the throat, ears, mouth, thyroid, shoulders, neck and jaw.
Chakra 6 is known as the Third Eye Chakra and is located between and just above the eyebrows. It is the centre of intuition, perception, awareness, imagination, visualisation and insight. The physical areas governed are the neurological system, eyes, nose and pineal gland.
Chakra 7 or the Crown Chakra is located at the top of the head. This chakra relates to spiritual connectedness, wisdom, consciousness and understanding. On a physical level it supports the brain, nervous system and pituitary gland.
Suzy uses from reiki, sound, crystals and channelled energy to guidance to bring the chakras back into balance and to offer insight.
To maintain chakra balance at home, Suzy suggests sitting in meditation, drawing attention to each chakra and imagining it flowing with the colour associated with that specific chakra.
“Starting at the base which is red, see each one flowing with colour i.e. Sacral (orange), Solar Plexus (yellow), Heart (green), Throat (sky blue), Third Eye (indigo – a dark blue purple) and Crown (magenta – deep, bright purple pink). Give thanks and appreciation for their support.” - [email protected]; www.suziseha.com
