Fox Designs sponsors N$30k towards learner's tuition
'The Fox Award'
Duneside High School in Walvis Bay held its prize-giving ceremony on 24 September, during which a special award was given, "The Fox Award" by the Fox Family
Peter and Linda Fox from Fox Designs, regular sponsors for Dux learners at the school, pledged N$30,000 during last year's prize-giving ceremony toward a learner's tuition fee for the year 2025. The Fox family sponsored Sonia Nghilunanye, AS learner at Duneside High School, with a study bursary of N$30,000 for her studies next year. The award was given not only in response to her parents' plea for support for their daughter's education, but also for Sonia's academic and all round participation in school activities.
After several discussions with the teachers, he stated that the learner should not merely be a top achiever but should stand out throughout their school years, not just in matric, "The learner must be an all rounder" Fox noted.
The teachers approached all the AS learners and asked for a short portfolio describing what they have done since Grade 10.
A few candidates were selected, and their portfolios were presented to Fox. He evaluated them based on their behaviour towards elders, involvement in the community, and participation in school activities.
Fox emphasized that he wanted to award the sponsorship to a deserving learner, stating that, "I want to give it to a learner who really needs financial support and it must make a difference in their lives."
It was ultimately decided that Sonia Nghilunanye would be the beneficiary of the sponsorship.
"If I can make a difference in one child's life, even if it is once a year, I would feel good," Fox stated.
Nghilunanye expressed joy stating, "no words can truly describe how grateful I am for the sponsorship going towards my university studies at the Faculty of Health Science."
She further expressed that the sponsorship means the world to her and proves that there are people out there who see her potential and are willing to generously invest in her, "this will definitely be of help to support my university financially and it made me see the world in a different light, even with all this darkness there is always a light in the tunnel and to me Fox Designs truly is my light."
"I am so grateful towards the Fox Designs Foundation for everything they've done, it truly means a lot." She added.
Mrs De Wee, former teacher of Nghilunanye expressed joy, stating that she really deserves the award as she has watched her grow and knows her story, "I feel honoured and delighted that she is receiving the award, she has been doing exceptionally good and she has been well behaved throughout."
"I am sure that one day, she will come back to this school and say, "Duneside saw the potential in me", De Wee added.
