On Thursday at around 18:00, two shacks caught fire in Oletweni, Swakopmund.

It is alleged that the fire broke out while the owners of the shacks were not home.

The fire started in Ondjamba Street at erf no. 2864 before spreading to the neighbouring shack on erf no. 3664.

Officers from the police force and fire brigade responded to the call and managed to bring the situation under control. Fortunately no fatalities or injuries were reported, however damage to the shacks are noticeable.

Community policing chief commander, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, confirmed the incident stating that household items including furniture, clothing, documents and food were destroyed, and that the value thereof is undetermined at this stage.

Two Namibian male victims lost all their property while another female victim was able to retrieve some items from the fire. The cause of the fire is still unknown and investigations continue.
