Amwele stays on as Ondangwa mayor
Paavo Amwele has been re-elected as Ondangwa mayor for the eighth consecutive year.
He will be deputised by Esther Auala. The town council held its elections last Friday.
Julia Kapia and Nicodemus Amadhila of Swapo and Gaus Tshithigona of the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) were elected as management committee members.
Tshithigona replaced Ericky Angula of IPC, who resigned as council member this year.
Kapia was re-elected to serve as the chairperson of the management committee.
A year of success
In his acceptance speech, Amwele urged council members to work hard to make 2024 a year of success. He’s looking forward to continuing working with residents, he said, to continue their goal of bringing development to the town.
He added that he will rely on the support of the public as well as support from staff members to push development.
“As leaders and councillors, we should always remember that our duties are to give directions to staff members and to encourage them to do their work in a conducive environment,” he said.
“My goal is to lead this historic town into an industrialised and prosperous town that is contributing towards the goal of the country, Vision 2030, and where all residents enjoy the opportunities it can offer.”
He was first voted as mayor in December 2015. Magistrate Dominic Lisulo presided over last Friday’s elections.
