Farming has had a profound impact on Ndeshihafela Shinedima's character, and has taught her patience, determination and wisdom.
Ndeshihafela Shinedima - popularly known as @the_agrichic on social media, is making waves in the agricultural industry as a full-time livestock farmer and charcoal producer.
She farms in Outjo in the Kunene Region and her inspiring journey began three years ago when her mother was resettled, providing her with the perfect opportunity to embark on a farming adventure.
Having spent valuable years at Agribank, Shinedima acquired a wealth of knowledge and experience which she credits as instrumental to her success.
According to the bank, Shinedima’s passion for farming was sparked by a farm worker at a neighbouring farm who provided her with guidance that ignited her interest in agriculture, and from her mother who supported her dream.
She used her savings and with contributions from close family members and friends, she successfully established and expanded her agribusiness.
Patience, determination and wisdom
In 2022, she became part of the export trade training programme and this gave Shinedima the confidence to manage her agribusiness well, Agribank said.
She added that farming has had a profound impact on her character and has taught her patience, determination and wisdom.
Reflecting on her journey, Shinedima highlighted several remarkable experiences that have shaped her farming career.
She said she takes pride in creating employment opportunities for her community.
She also emphasised the joy of producing top-quality products worthy for export, thanks to the relentless support of her family, friends, mentor, the agriculture ministry and fellow farmers.
However, she does not shy away from acknowledging the challenges she faces as a young woman in a traditionally male-dominated field.
Shinedima revealed that she has often been underestimated by her male workers due to her gender and age.
“Nevertheless, she remains determined to overcome these obstacles and break barriers," the bank said.
