On 16 May, the Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund welcomed Ziggy Muinjo as its manager of treasury and investments.
The young, ambitious professional began his career in 2014 as a trainee dealer at First Rand Namibia's RMB division, where he handled all dealing room activities, including bank funding, foreign exchange dealing and fixed income trading.
He was later promoted to treasury dealer, a position he held for four years, managing the bank's liquidity.
Proud moment
In 2018, he transitioned to the role of treasury analyst and investment portfolio manager at the Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF), where he managed a N$22 billion fund in fixed income, equity and currency hedging.
"One of my proudest achievements is successfully managing a N$22 billion fund at the GIPF and winning three best performer awards," he proudly stated.
He added that some of his core responsibilities include the management of the investment portfolio, liquidity management and coordinating and analysing unlisted investments. His approach, Muinjo said, characterised by thorough analysis and swift decision-making, which has enabled him to maintain high performance levels.
He thrives in an environment that offers comprehensive data and fosters collaboration and innovation, he said. "I am at my best when I have access to comprehensive data and a supportive work environment."
Adapting
In his first 30 days at the MVA Fund, Muinjo faced challenges in familiarising himself with new systems and processes, but adapted quickly. He values the work-life balance his position offers, allowing him to pursue interests like cycling, swimming and spending time with family.
Highly cognisant of his strengths and weaknesses, Muinjo said: "My areas of strength include analysis, decision-making and my extensive experience in treasury and investment management. My weakness is understanding that while I am eager to implement change, I also need to be open to other’s perspective of change".
Embracing his new position at the MVA Fund, a zealous Muinjo said with dedication and hard work, he plans to contribute to taking the fund to greater heights.
Education
With a robust academic background, he holds a bachelor's degree in financial economics and banking from the University of Tizi-Ouzou, Algeria, and a bachelor of economics (honours) from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST).
Believing in continuous skills development, he holds an ACI diploma CMP and an ACI dealing certificate from the Financial Markets Association in France, and a Global Leaders Programme certificate from GIBS University of Pretoria.
