Learning and growing on the job

Alina Tshitenda is a client service consultant at the Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) in Windhoek.
Sharing her experience working for the Fund, Tshitenda says a lot of learning and growth has been part of her journey and she wishes to continue growing both personally and professionally. “Each day comes with new lessons and I appreciate working in an environment which encourages an individual’s personal growth as GIPF takes pride in fostering an ideal working environment for skilled and engaged professionals,” shared Tshitenda.

Tshitenda holds a Diploma in Records and Archives Management and an honours degree in Records and Archives Management. She is also reading towards a Master of Business Administration (MBA), majoring in Strategic Management.

When asked whether she envisioned herself in this specific position, Tshitenda said she had no idea this would be her career. “I however developed great passion for it throughout my journey. This is attributed to the experience I gained during my time at the Fund and lessons learned in the pursuit of my MBA degree,” added Tshitenda.

Reaping career rewards has been part of the vibrant Tshitenda’s journey at GIPF. Her first role as a records administrator at the Fund came to an end when she was promoted on 1 November 2020 to her new role as a client service consultant. Besides her duties of striving to deliver positive and professional interactions with members and stakeholders in a manner that is right, fast and humane, Tshitenda also undertakes member education sessions. “Being granted the opportunity to enlighten GIPF members on their benefits is one of my job’s greatest highlights. Nothing brings me greater joy than members who know their benefits because it translates into them ensuring their documentation will be in order to ensure timeous benefit payouts,” added Tshitenda.

While working for the Fund, Tshitenda says she has learned valuable lessons. “I have learned to be more patient with different people and I have harnessed my ability to sympathise and be empathetic with others.”

In her spare time, Tshitenda loves spending time with her family. “I am blessed to come from a loving home. A home where my Mom and Dad are still alive and married to witness and celebrate their children’s achievements,” shared Tshitenda. Additionally, she enjoys being on the netball court, hiking, going to the gym and spending time with friends.
